Whether you're bikepacking across the Balkans or exploring Serbia at a slower pace, you're warmly welcome to rest under the trees.
Two Ways to Experience Šumski Mir
History of Deliblato Sands
The Deliblato Sands, once known as the "Banat Sahara," was historically a vast area of moving sand dunes. Strong winds carried the sand across fields and villages, threatening agriculture and settlements throughout the region.
In the late 18th century, forestry engineer Franz Bachofen studied the problem and proposed stabilizing the sand through vegetation. Beginning in 1818, large-scale afforestation efforts were launched, planting grasses and trees to anchor the shifting sands.
Guest Experiences
"Šumski Mir is a hidden gem! The peaceful forest setting and the warmth of the hosts made our camping trip unforgettable. We will definitely be back."
